Sara Chears works as a Women’s Program Specialist at Harper Community College in Palatine, IL. In this position, she provides academic advising, career guidance, and personal support for individuals in transition leading to self-sufficiency. Sara has extensive experience working with issues related to women and girls. She worked in the domestic violence field for five years and at Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana. In addition, Sara provides mentorship and supervision to social work interns at Girls in the Game, a non-profit organization. Sara has also been a Career Day presenter for Walther Lutheran High School. Sara has a Master of Social Work from University of Illinois at Chicago, Jane Addams College of Social Work as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Concordia University in River Forest.
Sara completed the Career Development Facilitator (CDF) certificate in January 2014. She found the information in the program helpful in her current position at the Women’s Program. Since participating in the training, she has been able to offer additional support in the areas of job search and career direction.
