“My approach is to help harvest people’s talents so they can do/be/have whatever it is that they seek much faster than they could alone. Going through the Career Development Facilitator certification and the Life Coach Certification has given me the knowledge and the confidence in myself to go out into the world to look at post-secondary education in a different light. Through my CDF certification, the words that stand out to me and I reflect on daily are, Empower, Educate, Facilitate, Embrace, and Inspire. That is what I want people to feel when I meet with them. I want each meeting to feel like an informal conversation or a visit with a friend. Enrolling in college is a scary thing, and if I can take the intimidation factor out of the equation because of the skills gained through CDF certification, then I think I will be able to help students to make informed decisions regarding education in order to get them into a career they love.
I have taken many classes and one of the things I have learned is that a good instructor can make or break the class. Marie Smith was a wonderful facilitator! Knowing that I could ask any questions and that they would be answered was very comforting. Making it our own, that is one of the first things I remembered Marie telling us when we went through our orientation for CDF. Through each competency and module, I feel Marie has guided me and given me the tools needed for success.
