My name is Nancy Carreño. My passion is career development and recruiting – two occupations that are the direct inverse of each other! With career development, I have been able to help individuals identify their occupational goals. With recruiting, I have been able to help companies identify the right candidate for an occupational opening.
I began my career as a HR Representative and Employment Specialist. My work focused on developing an Employee Assistance Center and providing a full range of employment services to 1,500 employees during a US Navy BRAC base closure. My team successfully implemented a community job fair to match highly skilled workers with employers, assisted clients with identifying and reaching academic career goals, and provided resources to clients to successfully relocate to a new geographical region with job transfer opportunities.
As an Employment and Training Specialist working with a dislocated autoworker population, I provided direct one-on-one assistance to my participants in their journey to find re-employment and training. This included evaluating academic and career assessment results, researching careers, reviewing college programs, assisting with the admissions process, as well as providing additional assistance while my participants were in school, and helping my participants to attain their re-employment goals.
As a recruiter, I developed programs to attract and retain key personnel, including: tuition reimbursement program linked with new hires in key specialties, new hire orientation programs, and peer advisor systems.
I have a Master of Science in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management from University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition, I have a Professional Human Resource Management Certificate from Villanova University. I am also a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist Certificate “Employee Benefits Concepts & Medical Care Benefits” from Wharton School of Business within University of Pennsylvania and a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist Certificate, “Contemporary Legal Environment of Employee Benefits” from Wharton School of Business within University of Pennsylvania.
I am a Career Development Facilitator and a Certified Resume Writer and Editor! The Resume Writing and Editing program provided valuable information about creating dynamic resumes that get results. My instructor, Marie Smith, was incredible! I truly believe the Career Development Facilitator (CDF) program offers incredible insight and resources into the Career Development profession and Human Resources profession. I have enjoyed the opportunity to validate, broaden and refine my skills and knowledge. I highly recommend the CDF program, as well as my instructor, Marie Smith, for a comprehensive study and reflection of our professional field.
