Evette D. Thompson is a graduate of Governors State University where she received her Master of Arts in Community Counseling. She began working for over 10 years with HIV/AIDS patients and their families. In this capacity, she assisted her clientele with having a better quality of life. Seeing an increase of individuals returning to school and the need to provide career assistance, Evette aspired to work with students to be successful in their educational/career endeavors. With this, she began working at Corinthian Colleges, Inc as the Senior Externship Coordinator. In this role, she assisted over 60 students per month in placing them on their externship and monitored them while on their sites. From there she was promoted to Director of Career Services; Evette was able to better assist students and graduates in their job preparation through relevant classes and workshops. For over 9 years, Evette worked as a Director of Career Services and she worked constantly to ensure that students and graduates were prepared for their externships and employment. Always one to push herself higher, Evette was promoted to Associate Director of Education. In this role, she was able to train and evaluate program chairs and faculty. Evette was able to work with students to ensure they were getting the educational tools necessary to be a success once they graduated. After being promoted to Associate Director of Education and gaining the experiences on the educational side, Evette is ready to utilize the information and knowledge gained to return to Career Services. She has return to Career Services as the Coordinator at McHenry County College. Evette is a staunch believer in ensuring that each student receives all the tools necessary to be successful upon graduation. Because of her continued desire to push others to be successful, Evette felt the need to pursue additional credentials. Therefore, she enrolled to take the Career Development Facilitator (CDF) program, the Certified Career Coach (CCC) program, and the Certified Resume Writer and Editor (CRWE) program. Through these program, she has reinvigorated her zeal and zest for helping others. She recommends anyone who is working in the field of Career Services and/or Job Placement to take these program. Marie Smith, the instructor, has been an encouragement throughout the process and was a wonderful instructor.
